Today’s post has been a long time coming…Nikson just turned 11 months old and he FINALLY has a completed nursery! You have no idea how much this excites me! Having a nursery for my baby was always a big deal to me, but wasn’t totally possible until now. When he was born, we were temporarily living with my parents and getting ready for a move to San Fransisco. And then we moved here and things were so chaotic and stressful for a while that designing a nursery was the last thing on my mind. But the right time for a nursery finally came and I could not be more excited to share it!
I will say, there are some perks to waiting until your child is older to design their nursery. First of all it gives you LOTS of time to search Pinterest and find things that you like and don’t like. But more importantly it gives you the opportunity to design a nursery for your child that you know! Don’t get me wrong, in a perfect world I would have already had his nursery completed before he was born, but I love that I now know his little personality and I could really keep him in mind during the design process.
I initially dreamed of an all black and white, very minimalistic nursery. But honestly it just didn’t seem to fit my little guy’s personality. He is curious, weird, crazy and hilarious and I wanted something with a little more color to match his vibrant self! I don’t love the idea of having a “themed” nursery, so I basically just selected items that I thought looked good together. Keep in mind, I am absolutely NOT an interior designer and I’m sure you’ll be able to tell, but I am very happy with the way the room turned out. A lot of love into this little space and I truly put my heart into creating something special for my Nikson.
This modern navajo rug from Rugs USA was one of the first items I knew I for sure wanted! I’m crazy about the print and colors. We play on this rug daily and it makes the perfect area to crawl and spread the toys out on.
I wasn’t sure I even liked this dresser when I first saw it, but decided to get it anyway because it matched the crib. After putting it together (which was a little bit of a pain in the butt might I add) and using it, it quickly became my favorite piece of furniture in the room. I can’t believe I changed my mind on this dresser so fast, but I’m glad I gave it a shot because it’s perfect! It’s also a changing table if you add the topper that comes with the dresser. I decided not to add the changing table on it because we have always changed Nikson in our room and wanted to keep doing it there, and I wanted to be able to put some decorations on top.
One of my favorite items in the room is his personalized swaddle blanket from Woolf With Me. He sleeps with this blanket and I SO wish he was tiny again so that I could swaddle him in it!
The Babyletto Hudson crib is the crib I knew I wanted! It’s super modern and sleek and has been the perfect crib so far. I should mention it’s also a piece of cake to assemble, unlike the dresser. I wrote a little more about why I love it HERE.
How gorgeous is this organic cotton knit & faux fur blanket from Woolf With Me? It’s super warm and cozy and the perfect addition to the room.
I had a hard time deciding what to put above the crib. There is some debate about whether or not you should put framed photos above your child’s crib for safety reasons, and since we lived in California where earthquakes happen, I decided I better not. I was so happy to find this wooden “N” and knew it would be perfect above the crib.
These triangle wall decals are from Urban Walls and were so easy to put on! They probably would have been harder if I would have lined them all up perfectly, but I randomly placed them to fill in blank spaces and add interest.
We love our Swivel Glider. It’s the perfect chair for reading and late night feedings (yes, unfortunately we still have those– working on it!).
Have you ever seen a cuter little dino? This was custom made for Nikson’s nursery from Plush Peddler and I love what it adds to the nursery.
My friend at The Mariposa Diary makes these beautiful scale baby photos. You send her your baby’s birth stats, and she makes a custom illustration of your baby’s exact birth length. I love that I have this and can compare him to how tiny he once was (and cry because he’s growing up to fast!)
Books are a huge part of our life and I’m obsessed with this bookrack. When I was looking for nursery ideas, I thought a cute idea was displaying books on shelves above cribs or rockers, but then I realized I want the books to be totally accessible to him at all times. He can go over and grab a book himself. Right now he just flips the pages (and rips out the pages and chews on them, haha) but I imagine him spending lots of time reading books when he’s older.
This custom made mobile from Redd+Redd makes me so happy every time I look at it! I love the uniqueness of it. You can request a custom one to perfectly match your nursery.
How amazing are these animal art prints from Minted? I feel in love instantly with the sweet sayings inside each image. My favorite print is probably the ram with the saying “I will stay thru the night with you and hold your hand” – so fitting for a nursery :). Minted has a huge selection of children’s art prints, as well as fine art, photography art, and foil pressed art created by independent artists from all over the world. And a huge perk is you can order your prints framed!

I really love how your nursery turnd out and it surely looks like something out of Pinterest. But you have all the reasons to wait and take your time and research pinterest. I did the same thing myself when we moved into our new house. I have 3 kids so we needed a new larger home and loads more furniture. Believe it or not, I began searching for furniture 6 months before moving in (it was a new built so I had time). I pinned everything onto my boards to go back to later and know what prices were like. In the end, I am so happy with the result and love my home. Would love if you can link up to http://the-wardrobe-stylist.com/2016/03/04/jessica-albas-style-fashion-home/

I love this nursery! I recently got the same crib. Just curious as to what paint color you used? Having so much white and gray in my nursery, I love how the color livens everything up!

Thanks Carina! So unfortunately I don’t know the paint color because I live in an apartment and we didn’t repaint. We just used to color that was already there. I’m sorry I can’t help you there. But you could add some color through bedding and decorative pillows and a rug. Good luck with your nursery, I’d love to see it when it’s done! xx
